Through Hebron Rehabilitation Committee’s legal unit concentrated efforts against the Israeli settlers taking over Arafeh family house in “Qzazeen old market” in Hebron’s old city, which lasted for two years, the legal unit of the HRC has succeeded in evacuating the settlers out of the mentioned building. In accordance to the evacuation decision, the HRC’s lawyers along with competent authorities visited the building to make sure that the decision is being executed.
The above mentioned building is unoccupied one due to the fact that the Israeli occupation prevented rehabilitating and inhabiting. It is also noteworthy to mention that the armed settlers took over Arafeh house, which is located in the 3rd floor of a closed building by an Israeli military order, in 2018 after breaking the building’s gates, in addition to changing landmarks inside the house, furnishing it and setting Jewish symbols. Accordingly, the HRC’s lawyers, who are following up on the case, requested to order the settlers to hand over the house as it was previously to close the case file.
It is worth mentioning that the old city of Hebron is witnessing escalating settler violations against the Palestinian residents and their properties, especially those areas declared as closed areas by the Israeli occupation twenty years ago.
Hebron Rehabilitation Committee General Director, Mr. Emad Hamdan, indicated that the Arafeh House case is one of the most difficult cases that the HRC is working on due to the fact that the building is considered as a closed area by a military order and adjacent to the old vegetable market settlement “Abraham Avenue”. He added that unveiling the settlers’ attacks on that building was not an easy task for the HRC’s legal unit staff workers and that it needed time and much effort. Mr. Hamdan also said that the HRC is always ready to fight Israeli aggression in the old city area against its residents and their properties to protect its Palestinian identity from Judaization and to return rights to their owners.
