World Habitat Award

HRC wins the UN World Habitat Award
UN-Habitat 2013

The Building and Social Housing Foundation in London presented HRC with the World Habitat Award in 2013. This award is given annually to projects that demonstrate a meaningful impact on their own communities, as well as display the potential impact on similar projects worldwide.

The announcement was made by Dr Joan Clos, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, who commented, “The initiative to address depopulation by rehabilitating Hebron Old City very much satisfies one of our thematic areas in Shelter Rehabilitation, where the main focus is on rebuilding and restoring the center of cities back to their original mixed use.”

The award is given to the projects that provide practical and innovative solutions to current housing needs and problems. In 2013, 283 projects from 80 different countries applied for the award, and the project presented by HRC, “Hebron Old City Rehabilitation Programme,” was chosen as the winner.
